Formatting and Headings

  • The Turkish main title is written in bold uppercase; the English title in bold italic with the first letter of each word capitalized. In sub-headings only the first letter of each word is capitalized.
  • Spelling, punctuation, and abbreviations follow the current spelling guide of the Turkish Language Association (TDK).
  • The footnote method is used for citations; footnotes are placed after the full stop at the end of a sentence.
  • Footnotes use the “First name Surname” order and the bibliography the “Surname, First name” order. For books, page numbers given in footnotes are not repeated in the bibliography; for periodicals the page range is shown in the bibliography.
  • No comma is placed between place and date of publication; a single space follows every punctuation mark.
  • When a work is cited a second time in the footnotes, the abbreviations a.g.e., a.g.m., or a.g.t. are used.
  • For archival documents the full reference is given first with the abbreviation in parentheses; only the abbreviation is used thereafter. The Gregorian date is added in parentheses next to Hijri/Rumi dates.
  • Both authors are named for works with two authors; for works with three or more authors, “et al.” follows the first author.
